The Amazon Kindle Cover - Protect Your Investment

The Amazon Kindle cover that comes with the electronic reading device is rather inadequate with some things that will annoy someone who's just spent a several hundred dollars on a high-quality piece of electronics. The original Kindle cover had even more problems, but the latest incarnation, still leaves some things that the Kindle owner might find annoying.

The most common complaint with the cover that comes with the Kindle, is the way that it keeps the eBook reader in place. While it has two slots, which you can slip your eBook reader into, there is a tendency for it to slip out, and if you're not careful, it could hit the floor. As we know with all electronics, this is not an ideal circumstance. Many workarounds involving Velcro in strategic places have been suggested to keep the Kindle in one place when a person is reading.

There have also been a number of very good aftermarket companies offering stylish, high-quality solutions to the Kindle cover quagmire. Three higher quality brands are Strangedog, Stylzworld and Noreveusa

Amazon also has a new cover coming out at the end of the November called the M-edge cover, which is much anticipated. There are 12 different models that are genuine leather in various colors and compatible with an e-Luminator book light. If you own a Kindle, you'll immediately recognize how a book light that connects and doesn't wobble is a good investment for your Electronic Reading Device. There are also non-leather "Leisure Jackets" that sell for less, but on the whole the M-edge is a luxurious addition to the Kindle cover arena.

I wrote an ebook for amazon.com. I converted pdf to epub, but I have repeatedly failed to upload a separate ebook cover I had designed for my ebook. thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I think you need a eBook creator which enables you to design a cover from any images whilst convert pdf file to ePub format. And it is made as a book.

      2. Yes. You can put files in formats like PDF, DOC, MOBI, PRC, TXT, HTML, etc. to the Kindle.

      3. Yes, PDF is the file format of Adobe Reader. Kindle DX can read PDF format natively, while Kindle 2 can read PDF files through conversion. See here about PDF conversion of the Kindle 2:

I love my Kindle 2 very much. If you are thinking of buying a Kindle, I'll say get it and you won't regret. Since Amazon provide books for the Kindle cheaper than actual books, it has saved me quite a lot of money. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, so even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. My only complaint is the white case, right now all the Kindles are in white color... I think it will be cool if I can have a black or deep blue color Kindle ;)

I'll suggest you to read this review from a top reviewer, it outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle and also why it is worth especially at the end of the review:

  4. QUESTION:
    accidentally ordered book on kindle?
    Hi
I accidentally ordered a book on kindle from amazon presuming it to be the normal hard cover book.
Since I am absolutely new to this purchase of books on kindle I was confused and accepted the download of the ebook.
Is there any possibility of receiving the book(physically), even now? What should I do?

    • ANSWER:
You can return it within 7 days of purchase.

See the link below on how to do that.

  5. QUESTION:
Switching from a NOOK color to a Kindle; good idea?
At the moment, I have a NOOK color by Barnes and Noble. It's got a lot of glitches and customer support has been of very little help, so I've been considering just buying a Kindle instead. Of course, there are a few things I really like about the NOOK, and I want to know how the Kindle compares.

    1) Can I buy the Kindle with a backlit screen, or do I have to buy the cover with the built-in light?
    2) Is there any version of the Kindle with a color screen, or does it only come in black and white?
    3) Will I have the ability to highlight and take notes in the books I read? This was one of the major pros of the NOOK color was that it had the feature that allowed me to take notes in the books I read.
    4) Can I search for words and phrases throughout the book I'm reading (similar to using Ctrl+F on a computer)?
    5) What differences do the NOOK and Kindle have when it comes to eBook formats (ePub, PDF, etc.)?
    6) Can I bookmark pages on the Kindle?
    7) On my NOOK, some of the books I have purchased were completely wiped clean, and customer support has been of almost no help in retrieving it. Is Amazon better at backing up my purchases in case one of them gets lost or stops working?

    • ANSWER:
      1) No, none of the e-ink devices (including all Kindles) have a back-lit screen. You don't have to buy a light for the Kindle--you will, however need light to see the screen.
      2) No, Kindle uses e-ink which is black and white only. There are no Kindles with a color screen.
      3) I have no idea, check with Amazon.
      4) Probably.
      5) Amazon uses a proprietary format for their books, they can also read PDF format, but not well.
      6) Yes
      7) Your purchased ebooks should be linked to your B & N account and available for re-download at any time. Log into you account from your computer and try downloading them that way. Books not obtained through Barnes & Noble will not be stored in their system and you should have made a back up when you downloaded them. Amazon works the same way--books are linked to your account, not just to the device.

  4. QUESTION:
    Amazon Kindle Books Question?
Hello. I Just ordered the kindle 3 with Wifi and 3g.( along with other Accessories like a case ETC) i was looking around the kindle book store - the digital books you download to the device - They had Hardcover and paperback. i mean, if is on a digital thing, how can there be a difference? or the audio books, aren't they like the same price? can someone please help me out. im getting pretty confused andi want some books on it.

    • ANSWER:
Well, the big difference between Hard cover books and paperback books isn't really the construction, it's how soon you want to read the book. Read it now and pay more money, or read it in 9 months and pay less money.

The Kindle has that equivalent. If a book is hard cover only, you'll naturally pay more. If available in paperback, you'll be paying less on the Kindle too.

  5. QUESTION:
Which eReader would best suit my needs?
    When/where I'd use it:
    -in the car
    -on the plane
    -in bed
    -on the bus
    -at school
    -choir rehearsal breaks
    -pretty much anywhere

    Why I would like it:
-carting around 3+ large (harry potter sized) books gets tiresome
-I don't have a lot of room in my bedroom for books
-I don't like carrying large bags
-I always lose my bookmarks, so have to remember where I left off
-predicting what books I will want to read for a week long trip is infuriating
-I can take library books on vacation without worrying about leaving them behind or losing them
    -it's just overall more convenient

This is what I would like in my eReader:
    -WiFi
-easy to use (touch screen is preferable)
-audio/video capability is an asset, not a necessity
-compatible with eBooks not purchased from the corresponding store
    -light weight
    -6" screen
-decently priced (between and 0 - I'm not made of money!)
-decently priced accessories (cases, screen protectors, replacement cords, etc.)
    -ability to bookmark
-ability to highlight words would be nice (especially for books I need to read for school)
    -built-in dictionary
    -easy on the eyes

I was looking at the Kobo in Chapters yesterday, and I've heard the Kindle is another good one.

    Thank you for your help!

    • ANSWER:
Nothing is going to meet all of your needs. Based upon what you list, I'd recommend the 3G version of either the Kindle or the Nook. The Nook Color may be the best fit, but it's also the most expensive. Sony makes a touchscreen reader that may also be a contender.

The Kindle is the cheapest of the lot, but the wireless only version is pretty limited. For example, it cannot connect to Enterprise networks. This means, at least in my case, that I cannot connect to the network with it while I'm at work. The 3G version gives you almost limitless connectivity, so I'd recommend that version. The e-ink technology is crisp and clear and easy on the eyes. The device itself is lightweight and comfortable to hold as well as being fast and responsive. It's really easy to download books directly from Amazon. On the minus side, there are a lot of formats it can't read. It also lacks an expansion slot.

I've played with a black and white Nook, and found it to be heavier, slower and clunkier than the Kindle. The model I played with had a touch screen on the bottom that was difficult to use. However, I have a friend who loves hers. It supports many more formats than the Kindle, including .epub, which is used by many libraries to loan ebooks. It also has an expansion slot.

Sony makes a touch screen reader that's black and white and uses e-ink technology. You can buy books from Sony's store or Google Books, but I don't know much about selection. It supports multiple formats and has an expansion slot.

All of them allow you to highlight and make notes as well as offering built in dictionaries. All of them can play mp3s. All allow bookmarking. Because of your budget, I think the Kindle may be the best match for you. Amazon has a huge selection, and the Kindle is the cheapest and lightest device. There are also a lot of nifty and cheap accessories for it.

Kindle Accessories You Need To Have

Kindle Accessories: The Ones You Need to Have

The kind of accessories you may end up buying are definitely unique compared to other people's choice. After all, the circumstances where you plop yourself down and read may be completely different from the next guy. Or you may think of accessories as frivolous. Some basic Kindle accessories however are extremely helpful, there is nothing to lose for you to consider them.

1. Screen protector
This may sound like the most boring of Kindle accessories but keep in mind that once your Kindle screen is scratched, all is spoiled. This is something you pay 9 for, after all. A standard protective shield costing you about .99 can save you a lot of grief. Some people may voice concern regarding the change in display quality but it has been reported that most screen protectors in the market do not alter the screen display quality. When it comes to screen protector, the biggest complaint is actually about the application. Kindle has a fragile look and people tend to be extra careful when doing anything with it, resulting usually in tentative application of protective shield which may cause some frustrating grapple.

2. Car charger
Kindle comes with a power adapter and a USB cable so you may charge the battery using your PC. What about running out of battery where there was no PC or electric socket and your car is the only source of power? Universal car charger works with Kindle, provided you buy the appropriate tip. A good product with a lifetime guarantee, a reasonably quick charge, as well as protection from overcharging costs you as little as .95

3. Waterproof case
Most of us readers love to soak in warm bubbles, relax and read. Putting your paperback at risk may be something you are quite prepared to do but are you prepared to see your precious Kindle slip accidentally into a full bathtub? Waterproof case for your reader may be one of the Kindle accessories to consider, especially if you also bring your Kindle to your beach vacation. Some concern you may want to watch out when purchasing a waterproof case is whether you can still operate the keyboard properly once your Kindle is secured in the case. The latest product which come with some innovative features, including an upright floating ability sets you back around .99.

4. Kindle stand
Some people read in the tub, some people read while they eat - or when their hands are otherwise occupied. Having a reader stand is handy when breakfast (or other meal time) is the only time you can spare for reading. Choices of stands vary widely. Some serve as a mere stand, some combine being a cover and a stand; some also provide scratch resistance. Average stand for Kindle costs .99.

Kindle accessories needs may differ widely from one person to another. Some people only but the bare necessities, some people like to see their gadget optimized by additional tools. In the case of Kindle, manufacturers are reaching out to the green community by producing solar recharger. If you consider saving the environment as highly important, this is the accessory you want to buy. Kindle accessories are available for optimum enjoyment of the readers; there is nothing to lose by taking a look and considering a purchase. An accessory like waterproof case may well save your Kindle from early demise.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Best Kindle cover and book light?
I bought the Kindle lighted cover from Target. However, when I tried it last night the light only sporadically light up when pulled out, and the light was dim (dark in bottom left corner). I love the compactness of the cover, and will need a light. Is it worth exchanging for another lighted cover, or is there a better cover/light set to purchase? I would like a light that will fit in my Kindle cover and not get busted.

    • ANSWER:

  2. QUESTION:
Is it possible to adjust the lighting on a Kindle 3?
I would like to read at night with my kindle, but I always have to keep my light on. I was wondering if there was a way to make the screen brighter?

    • ANSWER:
No. The Kindle uses an e-ink display. There is no back-lighting with this type of display. Just like an actual paper book, if you need more light, you must turn on a lamp.
Seriously, the display was made this way to prevent eyestrain. LCD screen e-readers are available and can be used in the dark but are more likely to bother your eyes when you have been reading for a period of time. Amazon Kindle does not make an LCD reader, so if you decide you want one, you will not be able to transfer previously purchased books from your Kindle account to the new reader. I would recommend you just buy a clip-on book light for your Kindle.

  3. QUESTION:
What is something like the amazon kindle?
I want to get my sister something like that for xmas but it doesnt have a back light and she likes to read at night. Price isnt an issue cause my whole family is helping pay for it.
What are other products that have a backlight that are like the amazon kindle??

    Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
Actually, the screen of ebook readers are designed such that it really look like books. The screen with backlight, like computer, PDA or iPhone is actually not good for reading, as they have backlight and will do harm to our eyes when we read on them for long hours. So, just treat screen of ebook readers like books, and you'll need a book light when you read in dark. I've this light and I use it when I read with the Kindle on my bed:

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TXZIDM?ie=UTF8&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000TXZIDM

And I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get it:

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2DUM7S4XW06QN%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

      http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/is-kindle-2-worth-the-price

Finally, in case you don't know, Amazon has recently put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it is now selling 0 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle, and it adds in international wireless access and native PDF support... So take the chance if you want it.

      Hope it helps :)

  4. QUESTION:
Why do i feel like i Need 10h of sleep every night or i can't get out of bed?
real sleep instead of lying there with my eyes open which means i actually need 13 hours of sleep because it usually takes me 3 hours to listen to music or read in bed before i fall asleep.

BQ: does the kindle have a light that you can read in the dark?

    • ANSWER:
First of all-The long-term effects of melatonin on the sleep-cycle are not well understood yet. This pills aren't safe to self-medicate with just because they are 'herbal' and some places you can get them without a prescription. This type of medication is used sometimes by pilots who have to adjust to very different time zones and remain alert or people who do four and four day/night shift work. Basically they can reset your natural sleep cycle and shouldn't be used nightly as a sleeping aid. If you use them every night too it can put a lot of strain on your natural sleep cycle.

For the rest of your question, you didn't mention how old you are or when this started happening. If you are in puberty or a teenager it is very likely that you DO need 10 hours of sleep every night .If you can afford the time, give your body what it needs. 8 hours is a frequently quoted minimum but every person is different and mainly need closer to 10 hours.

Another thing to address is your difficulty falling asleep. Is this new to you? When I was a teenager for a period of about 3 years I suffered from insomnia and had horrible trouble falling asleep. Many people go through periods like this, using in their teens or early twenties or late adulthood (70+) or if they are undergoing a stressful part of their life. One frequent problem is not being able to 'shut the mind off' even if the body is exhausted. This was my problem. One thing that I found helped was to write and write and write until I'd exhausted all my thoughts before going to bed. It took up to an hour some nights, but still less time than laying awake thinking did. It might help you-give it a try.

Now for waking up in the morning-you might be tired if you didn't get enough sleep or you might just not be a morning person. Does the exhaustion go away after a few hours or does it persist all day? If it last all day-you probably need more sleep yes. If it goes away though after a couple hours, you are probably getting enough sleep but just take awhile to 'wake up' fully. As soon as you wake up, expose yourself to lots of bright light (sunshine, or if its dark out turn on ALL the light in a room) and start moving around and eat breakfast. This will help clue your body into the fact that its daytime and help you wake up. It hard to rip yourself out of bed like that, but it helps.

  5. QUESTION:
I guess I am behind the times a bit, but, what exactly is a kindle and how do they work?
How much do they cost? Are they worth it? How do you get books on to them, and do they light up so you can read it at night? I love to read.... should I try one or stick to my books?

    • ANSWER:
I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. Basically, Amazon produces this device, and it makes a lot of books become available in electronic version. There are over 350,000 Kindle books that we can buy and read on the Kindle right now, and the number of books available is keep on increasing (I remember there are only 270,000 Kindle books when I bought my Kindle a few months ago).

I like my Kindle because I can buy books at a cheaper rate compared to actual books, and I can replace all heavy books with this handy device. I can bring it wherever I want to, so I can utilize my time whenever I've some free time (like I'm waiting for friends, shuttle bus, or whatever).

I like to read and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't feel tired... And now I prefer to keep and organize all my books on my Kindle rather than organizing all the physical books, it is really much more convenient.

I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get my Kindle. Guess they will help you making up the decision:

The Kindle does not have backlight, as it is purposed for our comfort on reading and and simulate reading of actual books. You can get a light like this one for the Kindle (just like a light when reading books):

Finally, in case you don't know, Amazon has just put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it is now selling 0 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle, and it adds in international wireless access and native PDF support... So take the chance if you want it.

      Hope it helps :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Different and Better, June 11, 2009

(REAL NAME)

I have owned both Kindle 1 and Kindle 2, so I'm already committed to the basic idea: e-ink reading in a slim form factor with excellent connectivity to a large selection of books and subscriptions. I have come to rely on my Kindle experience, and it has seriously enhanced my reading.

The DX was not an obvious upgrade for me, but two features put me over the edge: the larger screen, and the native PDF reader. I now have the DX in my hands, and can report PROS, CONS, and NEUTRALS:

PROS:

-- the larger screen is a definite plus. I use the larger type size on my Kindle 2 (older eyes), and at this type size I get far more text per page on the DX. This makes the whole reading experience more book-like (and should be a boon to people who buy large-print books.)

-- the screen is also sharper and crisper than my Kindle 2 in a side-by-side comparison: the text is darker, and the contrast is much better, making for better visibility overall.

-- on a side note, the larger screen also makes it possible to read poetry on the kindle, even at large type sizes. On earlier Kindles, the smaller screen cut off lines, so that you would lose the sense of when the poet ended the line. On the DX, you can see the whole line exactly as the poet meant it, with the cut-off in the right spot.

-- the PDF reader works as advertised, and is extremely convenient. PDF documents appear on the DX exactly as they do on a computer screen. Moreover, you can drag and drop your documents directly to the device using the USB cable (or use the for-a-fee email if you absolutely must.) The only downside: at least for the documents that I've used so far, I cannot adjust the type size as I can with native Kindle documents.

-- screen rotation also works as advertised: it operates as a mild zoom on both graphics and text and offsets slightly the downside of not being able to adjust the typesize on PDF documents. One nice design touch: the four-way navigation stick introduced on the Kindle 2 is rotation-sensitive, and will move as expected relative to the screen rotation.

-- more of the device space is devoted to the screen, while the white plastic border around the screen seems to have shrunk, both in general and compared to the proportion of screen to plastic on the Kindle 2. I like this (but see below about the keyboard).

-- storage: I like the increase in storage space, and don't mind the lack of an external storage card. I can see some people having trouble with this, but only those folks who either a) must regularly carry around PDF documents totalling more than 3.5 GB of space or b) must have nearly 3500 books regularly at their fingertips. I fall in neither category.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Cheap place to buy Kindle DX: Amazon's 9 7 Wireless Reading Device?
Where can I find a great deal online for Kindle DX: Amazon's 9 7 Wireless Reading Device

    • ANSWER:
Visit the blog I wrote about the Kindle DX and how to find the lowest prices for it or any other product avaliable for purchase online. The blog site is:

      http://pricesavershopping4kindledx.blogspot.com/

  2. QUESTION:
Buy kindle dx or just buy a book?
Which would it cheaper? Kindle DX looks perfect, it looks very easy to read, but it costs 9. WIth that money, you can buy so many books. I brought sony reader, the price was right, however it is too small very hard to read. So I dont think I would not like KIndle 2 also. I want to have KIndle DX, because I hate reading things on interenet, it hurts my eyes. So I want to read those by using kindle DX. Should I just buy expensive monitor that are good for eyes? Should I just stick with my PRS-350?

    • ANSWER:
No computer monitor is going to be much better for your eyes. They are all back-lit displays, which is what causes the eyestrain. Stick with an e-ink based reader.

You do realize that your PRS-350 has multiple font sizes to choose from? The button at the bottom left (I think) with the + sign in it will change your font size. Once you have the font size as large as it will go, press and hold the button for a few seconds. This changes the orientation of the writing and gives you an even larger print.

If you are finding the screen to be too small, instead of blowing all the money you have already invested in a reader and e-books, don't go buying a Kindle DX. Sony offers two more machines and they each have a larger screen. The Touch Edition (PRS-600 or 650) has a 6" screen, and the Daily Edition (PRS-950) offers a 7" screen and 3G capability. While both of these options are more money than a Kindle WiFi or 3G, they are both considerably less than the DX unit from Kindle. Also, because they are Sony you can continue using the Reader Store and any books you may have already purchased. Kindle is an entirely different format and will not work with the Sony books, or any books in epub format. Also Sony is offering a trade in credit (unless you are able to return your PRS-350 for a full refund) which will offset the price of the new Sony Reader. And Sony gives you public library access so you can borrow books for free instead of spending yet more money with the Kindle.

Here's the website address for Sony, so you can see the different styles for yourself and make an informed decision.
      www.sonystyle.com

      I hope this helps.

  3. QUESTION:
Which would be cheaper ? buy real books or Kindle dx ?
Kindle DX costs like 0. bust Ebooks are cheap.
    Real books costs like -22.

    • ANSWER:
Why buy the DX? just to read books. The mid range Kindle works great. I love mine - have all I need in one small package. Plus, I have games on it - Scrabble, Mahjong, Solitaire, Sudoku, and more, which means I'm not carrying around ANOTHER book. I still buy real books, but not nearly as often - and I can read 3-4 books a week. You have to weigh the cost vs the convenience.

  4. QUESTION:
What device is similar to Amazon's Kindle DX?
I saw the Kindle DX was coming out soon, but it's damn expensive. I know there's other products like it out there -- I just don't know what they are. If they're cheaper but virtually the same, I'll get it. Does anyone know what some are?

    • ANSWER:
There are other e-readers like Sony Reader but the Kindle has quite a lot of advantages making it stands out of other ebook readers. I'll say the current version of Kindle - Kindle 2 may be exactly what you want. It is virtually the same as the Kindle DX, just that it is smaller and it uses PDF conversion rather than native PDF support. Other than these, Kindle 2 does exactly what Kindle DX can do, and it is more handy compared to Kindle DX. You can read this review, which outlines quite a lot of benefits of the Kindle 2:

      http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR9J54TZ1541OR%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

You may want to read this review too, which compares the two most popular ebook readers: the Kindle device and the Sony Reader:

  5. QUESTION:
Should I sell my Kindle DX ?
Today, I went to library and read a book. Real books were way easier and more conformable to read. I was able to read with no eye pain, and I was able to read way faster. I like Kindle DX, because I can buy books cheap, I can buy any time I want to, I don`t have to go to store to buy books.
I specially have sensitive eyes and I read books for almost all days so my eyes hurts when I read books by kindle DX. I should have no spend 0 on Kindle DX. I should have spent these money on buying real books. DO u agree with me? SHould I sell it?

    • ANSWER:
Obviously if it's uncomfortable to read the DX, then it wasn't really a good purchase for you. Makes sense to sell it.

Personally, I find real books often are much harder to read. Too often, fonts are too small to read comfortably in less than ideal lighting conditions, even with my reading glasses on. On a Kindle, I can just boost the font size to what is comfortable.

Used Books Save you Money

It is surprising to see the used books collection that many of these resellers have. From used text books to old magazines and journals, you are sure to get almost anything that you have been searching for. Used college books are one of the most common items that people look for. From astronomy to animal husbandry, history of Everest climbs to that of the ocean's deepest trenches - a huge collection of used books are available at the resellers. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to get the desired college book at the first instance itself. To buy that coveted book you may have to visit a few resellers and rummage through the used books stock before you are finally able to find it.

The biggest advantage of used books is their low prices. But when you buy used books the condition of the book is the foremost thing to consider. It is advisable to check the books, especially to see that the books contain all the pages including the index. Often resellers tend to put an attractive cover to hide the book's damages. You should also be aware of the prevalent market price of the book to ensure that the reseller is not making considerable profits by charging higher than the normal.

Not only can you buy used books but you will also be able to sell used books or exchange used books at the reseller's. Barter of used books is a good idea, as you can always pick up something useful in exchange of books not needed anymore.

So the next time you want to add a missing edition to your National Geographic collection or buy a part of the Britannica Encyclopedia series, you know where to look.

  5. QUESTION:
Amazon Kindle 2...have you used the Kindle? Is it glitchy?
The Kindle 2 is now available and I have been considering Kindle for a long time but have heard about technical problems. Have you used or do you own one? How do you like it? Can you read in the dark, is it back lit? Thank you.
Thanks Ames!!!!! Just ordered our Kindle 2, can't wait for it to get here!

    • ANSWER:
      Hiya, H!!

I have one and I love it. No glitches so far at all. I got it 10 days ago, UPS delivered it the day before the actual release! I've read probably 7 books since I got it and it has performed flawlessly.

The screen is not backlit, which makes it less stressful on the eyes (a good thing if you read as much as I do!). You can read it in broad daylight in direct sun, which you wouldn't be able to if it was backlit. That does mean, though, that in order to read in the dark, you need to also get the little light that clips right on to it. I think that's about . WELL WORTH IT! I also got a cover for it, since it doesn't come with one.

I love it... Not even a moment of buyers remorse!
